Social Enterprise Works (SEW) is a Bristol based social enterprise development agency. Their mission is to enable a strong social economy to thrive in the West of England and beyond.
|Area Served:||Bristol, BANES, North Somerset, South Glos|
Social Enterprise Works (SEW) has been providing guidance and practical business development assistance to prospective, newly-formed and established social enterprises for over 20 years.
Over this time they’ve harnessed the potential of individuals and community groups all over Bristol. Together they’ve been able to create, develop and sustain successful social enterprises that improve the lives and environment of communities across the city. As a social enterprise themselves, they draw on their own values of empowerment, sustainability, accountability and equality to help deliver the best possible service for clients. Services aim to empower clients and promote sustainability on a day-to-day basis.
As part of SEW's efforts to meet the needs of the community and our clients, they offer and support a number of free services. These include:
- Free Starting inSocial Enterprise monthly Surgeries: Held at the Engine Shed, these surgeries provide an opportunity to seek advice and explore social enterprise ideas with an experienced advisor. This is a great opportunity for anyone thinking of starting a social enterprise or community business and is looking for some initial guidance. Participants come away with an overview of the social enterprise startup landscape, a better understanding of the legal models available and a ‘next-steps’ action plan to get started.
- Bristol and Bath Social Enterprise Network (BBSEN): Monthly Social Enterprise Meet-ups: Offering an opportunity to connect with local social entrepreneurs and social economy supporters, network with peers, potential partners and other sectors.
- Avonmouth and Lawrence Weston Enterprise Support: Born out of the SevernNet Working partnership between local organisations with the aim of strengthening the provision of employment and enterprise support in Avonmouth and Lawrence Weston, this service offers support, training and networking opportunities to potential and existing entrepreneurs giving them the skills and confidence needed to set up and run their enterprises. Outreach programmes are also offered to engage new entrepreneurs, especially unemployed people and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
